John Prine is on my stereo singing...
"Your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore
It's already over crowded
From your dirty llittle war
Jesus dont' like killin'
No matter what the reason's for
So your flag decal wont' get you into heaven anymore"
He wrote that song during the Viet Nam days....
Kinda chilling to hear it again.
We went to an anti-war rally today.
I was surprised by two things...
The only people there under 30 were the rosy-cheeked toddlers playing with balloons.
Wouldn't you think the ones who are of an age to go to war might be more interested?
In our mostly conservative town that always elects Republicans in national elections, we only got yelled at twice by passing motorists!
Mostly we got smiles, waves and peace signs.
Maybe the tide is turning.....
or maybe it's just that southern inclination to smile and wave when you pass someone.....

interesting thought.......it was good to see a picture of you and your husband.

That takes us back ... the only under-30s were toddlers? How inexpressibly sad how apathy has spread. It is not a comforting thought.

John Prine!! Right on!!
I've noticed that around here too. The kids that are gonna have to go, don't seem to be very active. I think it's got a lot to do with our terrible education system. Very few of them seem to be able to THINK !!
Thanx for the pics and doing your thing! rich
Good point . . . young people had better start making some noise unless they want to end up with their lives on the line for this trumped up war.
I am SO sorry for the families that have lost their beloved children to another war that makes NO sense!
Way to go, Marti! HUGZZZ . . .

It's good to have passions, isn't it? I have a plaque on my bathroom wall, you know the place, where it's yours and only yours and the click on the lock sends a wave of tranquility over you?? Well, it's where I keep things in view that I need to keep close to my heart, mass cards, parenting quotes and the one that get's top billing on the wall is "IMAGINE." Lennon made that such a powerful world in his legacy left here on earth.
i love that line from john prine: "THERE'S A HOLE IN DADDY'S ARM WHERE ALL THE MONEY GOES"
kudos for taking a stand.
Love John Prine. I recall going to a protest rally against Desert Storm and having our pictures taken! I could not believe it. Guess I am some black list somewhere.
I haven't heard John Prine in too long, now! I loved his wry take on thing, sort of like a '70;s Phil Ochsm another excellent protest singer. Perhaps some of today's artists will step up to the mike and deliver their take on the current state of dissarray in National affairs. I won't hold my breath. It was good to hear you expressed your feelings. I wish fewer people we bedazzled by the pomp and circumstance of rampant nationalism masquerading as patriotism. Bruce
Your hit counter probably increased by ten today just with me hopping around! I'm a first time visitor. You have a roller coaster journal... so many ups and downs! Thank you for letting me visit. I too am an Exceptional Children's teacher. Most of my kids are SLD, but four are EMD. It's quite a challenge. I'm 52, but in my 7th year as an EC teacher. I expect I'll be back to see how you are faring, and hope things go very well for you and your family. Bea
