I'll be damned if I let this job make me crazy!

Yesterday....
I am out front directing traffic when this adolescent looking 5th grader walks into me, saying, "nobody can make me stop"
I said,"ah, baby, don't' start your day off this way"
He shoved me again.
The principal suspended him for 2 days and told me it was not assault because I was not injured.
It's okay.
Poor kid, life has already punished him enough.
He will be in prison soon and I will still be out here directing traffic.
Which brings to my mind...
What other professionals with master's degrees do you see directing traffic?
Doctors in front of hospitals waving stop signs?
Accountants in front of H&R Block waving people into the parking lot?
Today.....
It is going great...
I am teaching up a storm....
My kids are rapt with attention.....
The principal storms in, waving a paper as though it is on fire.
"Do you have your compliance form? THEY are asking for it!"
I said, "my assistant is out today. If you can wait till tomorrow I'll do it, if you want it today , I'll make something up."
She wanted it yesterday.
I made something up.
My colleagues were running around in a panic.
I went back to actually teaching school..
They all think I am kidding.
Hey, I was looking for a job when I got this one. I don't see a line of people wanting to take my place

I hear what you are saying, Marti. Chalk it up to a bad day and keep in mind the good you are doing for the ones you can teach. Many of them will grow up and make a positive contribution to society, and some will go even further. That kid has a major problem that needs to be addressed before he hurts someone. Do you all have an alternative school program for such kids? Document it. If it happens again, I'd look into his options, your options, and get the SAT or the IEP team involved. Don't need him pushing around people like that. Next time he might hurt someone. At our school, we call it bullying.  Bea

Marti, you handled yourself very well! I would of been fired of course! lol When I was a single working parent my lil one who was 3 started preschool and was smacked in the face the first 3 mornings she started school by another little boy, I called the school, I talked to the teachers, I talked to the owner, they all said it wouldn't happen again. It happened again even after his parents were notified of his anger issues The next day I wasn't even out of the building and it happened again, I heard the slap, I heard my baby cry and I hurdled those children, grabbed that little boy up by his shirt and said, "Hit my little girl again and I will beat the hell out of your Mother!" Needless to say she didn't finish the following week at that pre-school! He didn't hit her again though, ( nobody wants their Mother beat up! lol) but I felt that there was an issue they couldnt control so I pulled her out when I found an alternative.

It may not have been assualt, but it is battery.  The legal definition of battery is any unwanted touching.

Doctors waving stop signs, LOL!! It is so true though. Teachers deserve so much more! We wouldn't even have doctors if it wasn't for teachers! I wish the world would really get that some day and compensate and respect teachers for what they do.

Great entry!  I wonder if it could be called "attempted" assault?

I can relate a bit... I'm a special ed. paraprofessional and I've been hit, kicked, pinched and pushed.  Then I get the special job of supervising the in school suspension for HOURS...  My position is different this year and I am not doing one on one.  I'm not missing it as much as I thought I might.  Neither does my arm!
