Chris' Story

Sometimes there is a child that just does not fit in with the rest of the family.

His parents love him.

They do the best they can for him.

What he needs is not what they are able to give.

It's no one's fault.

It's just the way it is.

Soon there are too many disappointments....

too many hurt feelings

for it to ever be right.

This is how it was with Chris.

He came to spend the summer with us when he was 14.

It was okay.

It was summer and we had a pool. Life was good.

We loved him, but we didn't have such a high stake in how he turned out.

When summer was over he went home and we lost touch.

He got arrested a couple of times.

He had alcohol and drug problems.

He was in a horrible car wreck that blinded him in one eye and severely disfigured his face.

I saw him maybe four or five times on holidays.

He was so angry and resentful of everyone that he made me nervous.

We didn't talk much, beyond a hug and casual conversation.

He moved a long way away. I heard from him through his mom and dad. He got married. Sometimes I would get pictures of his kids.

He came for Thanksgiving and on an impulse, I said,"why don't' you spend the weekend?"

His wife is a petite sparkling-eyed Cajun lady from a tiny town of Pauline, LA.

She speaks like a melody. I asked her how they did in the hurricane & she said, "Chere, we live so far out back of beyond, de hurricane, it cannot find us."

I think she saved his life.

He has two adorable kids, 10 and 7.

We sat up late around the fire & talked.

I am so happy to see him gentleand patient with his children

loving and attentive to his wife.

He is 35 and a man at peace.

He came down a long hard road to get there.

Hold hope in your hearts for all lost ones,

Marti

This is such a touching story. Maybe you had a hand in the fact that he turned out for the better. Just think of all the kids out there that need a helping hand. Paula

What a sweet story.  Even though he went thru some bad times, it sounds like a stable summer with his aunt & uncle planted a seed that has allowed him to evolve into a kind, loving husband and father.  Linda in Washington state

I hold hope everyday for my son and hope that girl that will calm him down is somewhere out there. He has a good heart just needs to settle down sometime.
Take care, Chrissie

My MIl used to say when you found a good mate that you found "a keeper" and she didn't mean it in the sense of catching something either. She meant that the person would keep you from harm's way by their love...I've always loved that phrase and she used it on me when I married her Joe....love, Sandi

What a wonderful entry!  That is so encouraging.  We just never know how life is going to "mold" us, and how people who come into our lives may re-mold us.

Marti, you told a lovely story. If you don't mind, I will pass this onto a friend of mine who is suffering with her son. I think it will give her hope.
