with a song in my heart

I love to sing.

It always gets a response.

Once when a handicapped child in my class was having a fit ,I softly sang Amazing Grace to myself so I wouldn't become tense.

Later on, calm restored, I was doing some paperwork and humming. The child came up to  me   & said,in an aggreived tone,"I'm bein goood now, you aint gotta sing no more!"

To share with my kids my love of life and give them a happy memory, I always awakened them with a rousing chorus of "Good Morning Starshine"

Somehow it has metamorphosised into, "Get up or I'm gonna start singing!"

LOL that cracked me up! I know what you mean... kids. THey try to be tactful sometimes. I have one boy who is mentally challenged, and he sometimes says what he perceives to be an interesting observation, but often, he doesn't match his tone of voice to the comment, and it usually comes out like a sarcastic remark. I'm always having to remind him to withhold his comments. He thinks he has to speak aloud his every thought. Sometimes kids are offended. Sometimes they will respond with an even more cutting remark. Often, the boy doesn't understand the response, but he does understand the tone of voice, and then he gets angry... aiyah! Other times, he is silent and thoughtful, and will say the most profound words that stay with me the rest of the day. YOu never know from where or whom the words of the divine will catch you unaware.
